Starting from Rhayader, this easy circular route of 9km rolls through scenic Mid Wales lanes and has a downhill finish.
From Rhayader, head out on the old Aberystwyth mountain road for approximately 1km before turning left over a road bridge that crosses the stream of Nant Gwynllyn. From here, ascend into the ancient oak woods of Coed y Cefn, noted for its many colonies of wood ant – the ants are everywhere! After a short section of ‘B’ road, go cross-country to link up with the Wye Valley and the return leg back to Rhayader.
A short (15km), moderate route that takes you around Caban Coch reservoir which should take about an hour to complete.
