A moderate 29km route that leads you through parts of the Wye valley in addition to the Elan valley. Starts in Rhayader.
From Cwmdauddwr on the outskirts of Rhayader, you’ll follow the Wye until you reach Nannerth-fawr. From here, turn left for a long and sustained climb and a traverse under Moelfryn. Leaving the open moorland, follow a short section of the mountain road and then down a single-track that leads all the way down to Craig Goch Dam. Head down the valley, following the cycle path before sharply turning left above Penygarreg Dam. Ascend Esgair Penygarreg and you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Wye Valley and Black Mountains. Descend and cross the mountain road once again to finish with the exhilarating golf-links descent into Rhayader.
This moderate 32km route takes three to four hours to complete and includes the ancient site of its title as well as open hills and four reservoirs.
